A busy and good week ends and another one begins.

I met with with my technical partner, Emmet Woods, last week to finalize the startup costs. I made one change this morning to total cost after fencing bids returned over the weekend. I will cover this at a high-level at the board meeting in conjunction with the budget scenarios. This morning, a query went out about using the Observatory zone for the landscape, conflicts with class and current use. I will update results at the BM. We can, in fact, use existing irrigation, which will cut costs.  I did an interview with Orcas Issues on Friday. They are very excited to hear about our program. I expect the article out this week. I constantly receive positive community feedback about the program, and many want to somehow be involved. This is good news, obviously. I'll be looking at fund raising using Amazon-Smile program for 501c3s. It could provide a decent flow of cash to go back into the program. The idea of doing a summer permaculture program has met with positive feedbac...

Snow-Ready: An update from early november

Infrastructure: There is a good chance we will be using existing irrigation infrastructure, which will save us money. Had a discussion with David this morning about the topic and got his ideas. We are continuing down this path. Funding: I am working on a way to get a grant for our program. It's a significant amount and should cover a good portion of our start up costs. I will update on this when I have more data. Press:    I am meeting with Margie Doyle from Orcas issue and also Colleen with IslandSounder to get some press coverage for our project. meeting with margie is this friday 11.10.17. Util Location: still waiting to hear from RI, EWUA. Soil Testing: Now that my technical partner, Emmet Woods, is back from Europe we will start testing where we have clearance. Prayers: Please remember our program in your prayers and meditations.

Project Update: Site Analysis: Hazard Location

We've had a number of utilities identified this week for the Site Analysis - see  Hazard Location . It's been tricky identifying in such a large area as the two parcels. In fact, it hasn't been possible to execute the way I had planned, which is identifying all hazards first. So, I'm focusing on the North Parcel's Observatory Zone, identified here . We'll start here and expand. I think we will be seriously limited in area once this is done, as the site has a lot of utilities, not including wiring for outside lights, irrigation lines, propane, drain fields (yes, plural) etc. So, there will be scaling down and/or mitigating with shallower planting depth. Anyway, making progress. Please see for project folders for maps, documents, etc. which have been added.  Thoughts:  Use existing irrigation lines.
